Reconstruction of the bridge connecting Oke – Agbo and Igbalu in Imota LCDA

The Executive Chairman, Imota Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Sunday Benson, has said that the footbridge which its administration is reconstructing to connect Oke – Agbo and Igbalu, will connect various communities and boost agricultural and socio – economic activities in the areas.

The reconstruction work started today, with residents of the Oke-Agbo and Igbalu communities in Ward D of the council, expressing happiness over the intervention of Hon. Benson.

A statement by the chairman’s media unit said that the communities on the axis, have been lamenting the absence of a proper bridge.

“The reconstruction of the footbridge is expected to significantly improve road connectivity between residential and commercial areas, and enable smoother movement during weather conditions, as this strategic bridge connecting the two communities will serve as a vital link, facilitating easier travel to Gberigbe, Imota, among other neighbouring communities in Ward D area.

“For a long time, residents of Oke Agbo and Igbalu, have been lamenting the absence of a proper bridge, which poses a serious risk to their lives and livelihoods, especially during the rainy season. The previous bridge collapsed due to heavy flooding, making it difficult for residents to access their farms and neighbouring villages”,the it stated.

The statement also stated that residents of these areas disclosed that the poor state has made access to schools and hospitals a serious challenge, as residents had to maneuver through the water that sometimes proved dangerous.

“They believed that upon completion, the footbridge would not only boost economic activities but also improve access to markets and schools, ensuring safe transportation for everyone.

“The residents welcomed this ongoing reconstruction from the Executive Chairman, stating that it will ease the transportation of goods to markets while enhancing connectivity for both Oke-Agbo and Igbalu communities”, the statement added.

Hon. Oluwole Ademola Adesina, councillor representing Ward D, who also doubles as the Council leader, in his remarks, stated: “Once this footbridge is completed, it will open an economic gateway for the area”, .

He emphasized that the reconstruction of the bridge aims to address the plight of the locals and fulfill the campaign promises made by Hon Benson.

The Council Leader reaffirmed that the Hon. Benson-led administration would continue to embark on projects that positively impact the lives of the rural residents of Imota LCDA.
